Nostrand, right. I was thinking Utica. Best to doublecheck my poor memory. I read the article in the Times that detailed the onerous police presence and wonder if the craziness is anywhere close to the same as when I was going. If they are cutting down on alcohol, then I doubt it. Seems like during the years I was there the violence was always between the Museum and Empire Blvd, not at the end where it would have made a bit more sense. Maybe the people who ended up partying on Nostrand were more the real J'Ouvert people, the ones who were actually respecting the tradition rather than just partying on the big float.
