I know you have visited a lot of churches and would probably agree that this also is a place where people pass their distortions down to their children. I wonder if you are tempted to visit churches in your travels. I admire the effort you put into getting an honest education out of your travels.

The description of the battle at Vicksburg was very touching and of course the genocide against native peoples has never been fully reckoned with, if that is even possible. The totality of the consequence for the destruction of the natural world have yet to be realized.

It was just during this little project that I realized I’d developed something of a method for exploring new places. Yes, now that it’s becoming formalized I should add visiting churches. I don’t like going alone, and certain people (not naming names) refuse to go with me because my motives are not respectful towards religion, plus it’s Sunday morning and what sane person wants to waste it at church. I get the latter, but although I have no respect for their beliefs, I usually have respect for people who genuinely believe them, so the take is not entirely valid. And my shyness is usually not justified. Every church I’ve ever been to outside of the wealthy ones has been very welcoming, I’ve just felt guilty about lying to them about why I’m there. But while traveling I could be honest and say I’m just a tourist looking for salvation in an unfamiliar place.
