We just returned from a few weeks in rural Virginia, where Trump banners and Confederate battle flags still embarrass the sky everywhere. The greening spring evenings ring with random gunfire. Mostly just people target practicing and the occasional mass killing in an elementary school.

We were there for the latest one, actually heard about it while driving past a large event called “War Play” where paint-ballers practice killing and, I suppose dying. This of course is the heart of civil war country and plenty of folks are training and stocking up for the next one. I heard alternate pleas for both a new civil war and expectations of the inevitable WWIII. One neighbor proudly handed me his latest acquisition, an AK47 (made in China!) He already had a AR15 or two. This person lives on 25 acres of beautiful wooded farmland, makes 6 figures working IT for the government and has a new home reportedly with a million and a half. It’s a bit hard to see how he has been oppressed by the left. True, not everyone here has a good job in the government, but many do. Almost everyone seems to be armed.

But I do feel you on your sympathy for the damned. For sure these are mostly wonderful people; kind, polite and genuinely helpful and hospitable. I liked them. Don’t encroach on the time slot for Tucker though, somehow he has all the answers and his appearance is a real tonic for the downtrodden.

How to explain this conundrum? I have probably given up trying, I just sloganize the whole thing: Humans: What a mess.

There is an explanation why the people you describe are as they are. Read “The Battle for the Mind” by William Sargent. I have sent you a copy, which should arrive tomorrow. As a bonus I’ve included another book that explains the history of everything.

Yeah I like the color version, it just allows the boy to emerge from the darkness, like he’s already begun his leap into the sky.

Regarding “Poison” I love that photo. I can’t tell exactly what is happening but I would probably prefer my own interpretation to the reality. God and industry interacting. Can’t decide if it is a benevolent act or if forces of restraint and condemnation are being unleashed but it is highly evocative and that is good enough for a photograph.
