It’s strange, I’ve never been much of an abstract expressionism fan in the art world. But with photography --as the kids might say--it hits differently. Weird, I know. Maybe it’s because I understand the medium and what it takes. Whatever the case, I dig your photo. 💪🏼

Thanks. I worry about photos that have be subjected to a lot of processing. Although this photo isn't as processed as it probably looks at first glance, there is quite a bit. It's hard to make a pile of dirt look interesting. Now that I have it in my head though, I'll keep at it.

Curious who your influences are, or what general schools? NatGeo, I'm pretty sure, but no doubt so much more.

Well, I came into this world in 1963 so yeah Nat Geo from the '70s and early '80s had an impact on my teenaged self. Not so much anyone's particular style, (although I'm partial to Abell's "quietness".) but definitely the "look" and color palette of that period. It seems that there was a lot of blue and golden hour stuff going on, a departure from the bright and airy images previous. I've been shooting some film lately and it's taking forever because I'm looking for those hours and being super selective. Looking for warmer tones, colors, times of day. Influences? A few names in no particular order: Ernst Haas, Sam Abell, Ansel Adams, Galen Rowell, Raymond Gehman, Yoichi Okamoto, and my old man. How about you?
